C3DLab conducts research in cardiovascular biomechanics, leveraging technological innovations and advancements in the biomedical and bioengineering fields.

The laboratory fosters a close, synergistic collaboration between bioengineers and clinicians, creating a multidisciplinary environment dedicated to bridging advanced research with medical applications.

Our mission is to develop novel and often prototypical tools that enhance clinical research and can be effectively integrated into daily medical practice. By employing state-of-the-art scientific methodologies, we design research tools and modeling strategies aimed at improving the diagnosis, prognosis, and risk stratification of cardiovascular diseases. We also focus on enabling personalized planning for complex and high-risk cardiovascular interventions, pushing the boundaries of precision medicine.

C3DLab brings specialized expertise in the following key research areas:

  • Patient-Specific Computational Modeling and Numerical Simulation to develop tailored computational models for biomechanical analysis using structural, fluid dynamic (CFD) or fluid-structure interaction (FSI) models, and advance personalized medicine as well as cardiovascular risk stratification.

  • Advanced Multimodal Imaging Processing to elaborate, analyze and integrate data from various imaging modalities, e.g., computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), for enhanced diagnostic and prognostic research capabilities.

  • In Vitro Testing and Simulation to replicate and study complex cardiovascular conditions under controlled experimental and physical settings, also providing novel technological platforms for training and procedure planning.

C3DLab’s research activities intersect with and support various lines of research at Policlinico San Donato, offering expertise and assistance across numerous programs and projects. The lab plays a key role in the “Ricerca Corrente” research program, funded by the Italian Ministry of Health, and it is directly involved in funded and on-going research grants at Policlinico San Donato.
