Anomalous Aortic Origin of the Coronary Arteries (AAOCA) is a rare congenital condition that can result in sudden cardiac death in both young and adult individuals. Currently, surgical decisions are mainly based on the anatomical characteristics of the anomalous coronary artery, without functional evaluation of the vessel. The NECESSARY project aims to investigate the mechanical compression of the anomalous coronary artery and its effects on blood flow using patient-specific computational simulations of the aortic root and coronary tree. This personalized, quantitative approach is expected to improve ischemic risk stratification and enhance surgical decision-making for patients with AAOCA.
